Jump to: Team Captain Resources | Fundraising Resources | Sponsorship Information | Sample Emails & Letters TAKE A HIKE is a hike-a-thon event to raise funds for Wilderness Trail, bring our ministry family together, and break in our boots for the new hiking season! TAKE A HIKE 2010 will take place on Saturday April 24 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in Asheville, NC and Tampa Bay, FL. We hope you can hike the 6 miles with us, but you can also be just as much a part of TAKE A HIKE by planning your own route in another location (trail or urban) or sponsoring other hikers. Hike as part of a Team or as an individual. Form or join a team with your youth group, fellow former hikers, parents of hikers, or friends of our ministry family. Just like our backpacking events, you are also welcome to sign up by yourself and jump in with other hikers on TAKE A HIKE day. Each Step to Further WT's Purpose! Summer Event attendance has increased 60% since 2006 - that means WT must expand in order to avoid turning people away! All money raised will help fund this growth while avoiding major increases in registration fees. Our goal for TAKE A HIKE 2010 is to have 500 hikers raise an average of $100 each for a grand total of $50,000. When it rains, play in it! We'll be hiking on April 24, rain or shine. The 6 mile route will not be strenuous, and is intended to include our smaller and less experienced hikers (and non-hikers).
Online Rally: Sunday March 28th at 5 p.m. A 30-minute event including pictures of the TAKE A HIKE teams and stories from other hikers! We'll also be giving away 5 more WT fleece vests. Register for the Online Rally at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/301988264 and plan to attend with your whole team!
Wilderness Trail will say "thank you" for your efforts with some cool WT stuff: Raise $100: Earn a TAKE A HIKE 2010 t-shirt Raise $250: Earn a t-shirt and a Wilderness Trail Kleen Kanteen (left) Raise $500: Earn a t-shirt, Kleen Kanteen, and a Wilderness Trail wicking t-shirt to hike in! Fundraiser "Funtivities" Ideas On the day that Summer Event hikers return from their hike, they spend the afternoon doing what the Staff calls “funtivities.” When thinking about how to raise money for TAKE A HIKE 2010, pick activities that will be more like "funtivities" for your group. More resources coming soon! Jail N Bail. Decorate a room in the church like a jail and "lock up" your Team members or (even better) some prominent community members. Have them to make phone calls to reach "bail" before they can get out. You can call (828-734-0355) or email (mary@wtrail.com) Mary Brown for a list of Wilderness Trail “alumni” in your area. Sell WT Ornaments. Sell some of our 2009 Ornaments to your church or community. Contact Mary Brown (828-734-0355 or mary@wtrail.com) and she'll send some your way. Service Auction. Have Team members donate their time and services (babysitting, yard mowing, etc.). Have a silent auction at church one Sunday, or a live auction one night. Silent Auction. Get local businesses, parents of hikers, and church members to donate items for silent auction. Set items out before the first service and through a lunch after church; announce the winners after lunch. Flamingo Yard Service. Offer “Flamingo” services to your church or community including flamingoing someone else’s yard (covering a yard with pick plastic flamingos), flamingo removal service, and flamingo insurance. Car Wash. Tried and true – works especially well if your church is located on a busy street. Bake Sale. It’s best not to set prices – just ask for donations and let people know that all the proceeds will benefit improvements at Wilderness Trail. Church-Wide Yard Sale. Team and/or church members can clean out their closets and earn some money for Wilderness Trail at the same time! Be sure to advertise around the community. People love a good yard sale! Pampered Chef Party. If you know someone who sells Pampered Chef, ask them to host a party with the proceeds benefiting TAKE A HIKE 2010. Wilderness Trail Sunday. Does your church set aside donations for missions on fifth Sundays? Get a Wilderness Trail staffer to come and preach, with the offering from that Sunday going to TAKE A HIKE 2010. Call Mary Brown to set up a date (828-734-0355). Got other ideas? Let us know what you end up doing! And give Mary a call anytime for resources: 828-734-0355.
